Barrigas Restaurant - Ciudad Juarez, Mexico

Barrigas serves traditional Mexican food in a way popular with people in Juarez, Mexico and from other places as well. Barrigas is located right next door to the El Paseo Hotel Suites on Triunfo de la Republica. Friends had told me it was a good place, so I finally dropped by one Saturday afternoon.

The interior is traditional Mexican with high ceilings, and the restaurant was packed that afternoon. Only this small dining room in the rear was unoccupied.

Something a bit different than my usual steak or shrimp seemed good this time and a sense of adventure led me to order the a specialty of the house, Pachuga Barrigas. This plate of thin, very nicely broiled and seasoned chicken breasts was very good. The green chiles were a nice touch, as was the whole avocado always there to soothe the smartness of the peppers. The cost was roughly $6.50 U.S. (2/2003).

Barrigas has a great deal of variety on the menu, ranging from tacos to pasta to burgers, and it’s all very reasonably priced.
