Mariscos Olas Altas Restaurant - Ciudad Juarez, Mexico
Mariscos
Olas Altas is a seafood diner in downtown Juarez, Mexico not
to be underestimated...
Definitely off to itself on 16 de Septiembre,
a couple blocks west of all of the tourist attractions, Mariscos
Olas Altas is a perfect example of the old adage that some
of the very best dollar values are the small restaurants frequented
by local people. I would guess this would be a popular lunch
spot during the work week for those with jobs on the south
end of el centro.
I
stopped in Mariscos Olas Altas for the important reason that
I got a whiff of cooked fish from across the street where
I park my car when in el centro, on a day I was “muriendo
de hambre” (dying of hunger). And what a nice surprise
it was. Very, very quickly after placing my order this tasty
fish soup arrived.
The
interior was very clean, and the owner had obviously gone
to quite a bit of trouble to make the small dining room attractive.
I
ordered the “Shrimp Fiesta”, having no idea what
would arrive. This plate is what arrived, and it was delicious:
6 large shrimp wrapped in bacon served on a bed of rice with
salad. I could not have been more pleased. The cost of the
meal was only $5.80. The Coca Cola I ordered and the tip brought
the total to about $8.50.
I have a feeling I will be back...
