City Market - Ciudad Juarez, Mexico - Page 10
The business with the green facade at the
end of the row is a very stocked pharmacy where you can
obtain prescription drugs for generally much less than if
purchased north of the border. The Chihuahua Liquor
store is also well stocked with all varieties of Mexican
liquor. You can get a good bottle of tequila for a
reasonable price or even a bottle of mescal with the worm
(33% alcohol). The Don Pedro brandy is also very good.
Just do not forget to declare them at customs when you cross
the border. You will have a pay a small import fee
(usually about $1.50 a bottle) to the State of Texas, which
also applies to any cigarettes you might purchase in Mexico
($4.10 a carton as of July, 2004).
Located just about in the middle of the
businesses in front of the City Market is Maria Bonita (named
after a famous restaurant owner), a small store which specializes
in high quality leather goods. This man is Higinio
Zamora, the owner. He had some very good looking leather
jackets the last time I dropped in on him.
All in all, I believe you will find your
visit to Mercado Juarez to be well worth your time.
